Know-Center is a partner in the EU project ‘Europlanet 2024 Research Infrastructure’ (EPN-2024-RI) and will strengthen Europe’s position at the forefront of space research in the next 4 years together with more than 50 project partners.
The new EU Horizon 2020 project Europlanet 2024 is about with providing an EU-wide research infrastructure to meet the major scientific and technological challenges of modern planetary research.
The project builds on a series of highly successful pre-projects. Recent innovations in the project will include the establishment of a ground-based observation network to support space-based missions, the introduction of an interactive mapping service for the virtual exploration of planetary surfaces and the development of machine learning tools for data mining for the full exploitation and analysis of planetary data sets.
Under the project management of Andreas Windisch, the Knowledge Discovery area of Know-Center supports the Space Research Institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in the application of machine learning and data science approaches to research questions in planetary research.
The project in its entirety draws on the resources of the Europlanet Society to disseminate activities and results and to build a more diverse user community.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 871149.
