The annual European Conference on Information Retrieval (ECIR) is the premier European forum for the presentation of new research results in the field of Information Retrieval. During the ECIR conference, the Bibliometric-enhanced Information Retrieval workshop took place on March 20, 2016 – here, participants applied insights from bibliometrics, scientometrics, and informetrics to concrete, practical problems of information retrieval and browsing.
One of nine accepted workshop papers is the Know-Center paper titled “Towards a more fine grained analysis of scientific authorship: Predicting the number of authors using stylometric features.” The authors Andi Rexha, Stefan Klampfl, Mark Kröll, and Roman Kern from the Knowledge Discovery Team presented their work in the workshop session “Text and Reference Mining”.
Their paper proposes to add the concept of author attribution into the pre-processing of scientific publications in order to bring bibliometrics and information retrieval closer together. Through a new feature representation of scientific publications, the distribution of stylometric features is captured and thus particular segments can be attributed to distinct authors.
The paper is available for download here.
